Driver and Vehicle Licenses

Newcomers to the state have 30 days after they have established residency to file for a valid Missouri driver’s license and vehicle plates.

Driver’s tests, both written and road, are conducted on the Missouri State Fairgrounds at the Highway Patrol office on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8 am until noon, and from 1 to 3 pm. If newcomers have valid out-of-state licenses, only the written test is required. The out-of-state license must be surrendered. Those who must take the tests are asked to allow at least one-half hour for the driving portion of the test.

A Missouri operator’s license may be obtained at the Pettis County Driver’s License Office, located in Thompson Hills Shopping Center on W. Broadway, after completing a vision examination. The vision examination is administered from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and 1:30 to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Contact the license bureau at (660) 826-3316.

Newcomers must present their original Social Security cards, or proof of their Social Security number, to obtain a driver’s license.

Don’t forget, in Missouri wearing a seat belt in an automobile is the law.

Animal Licenses

To secure a pet license, owners must certify that pets have been vaccinated with anti-rabies vaccine when the animal is old enough to receive it, as determined by a veterinarian. The pet license fee is $2 if animals have been neutered or spayed, and $6 if they have not. There is a limit of three pets.

Licenses may be obtained from the City Collector, 200 S. Osage, (660) 827-3000, and must be renewed annually.
